By Bike to Škocjanski Zatok

A short and easy cycling route from Ankaran through Koper to Škocjanski Zatok — Slovenia’s largest brackish wetland and a true paradise for birdwatchers. This bike route is flat and suitable for absolutely everyone, from families with children to recreational cyclists looking for a relaxed afternoon in nature.

Cycling Route Description: Ankaran – Škocjanski Zatok

  • Starting point: Resort Adria Ankaran.
  • Difficulty: easy, flat route, suitable for all types of bikes (trekking, road, electric, even children’s bikes).
  • Distance: approx. 7 km one way (approx. 14 km round trip).
  • Riding time: 20–25 minutes one way, at a relaxed pace.

 

Route Step by Step:

  1. Ankaran to Koper: from Resort Adria Ankaran, follow the well-maintained coastal bike path toward Koper.
  2. Through Koper toward Bertoki: passing the old town centre, join the Path of Health and Friendship (Parenzana) cycling route, which runs alongside Škocjanski Zatok.
  3. Arrival at Škocjanski Zatok: the route brings you to the visitor centre (Sermin 50, Koper) — time for a walk along the nature trail, bird observation points and the scenic viewing platform. Find out more about the reserve: https://skocjanski-zatok.org/

Tip: the route is completely flat and suitable even for less experienced cyclists, families with children, and bikes with a trailer. At the visitor centre you can also see horses and the native Istrian cattle breed “Boškarin”.
