To Muggia for Great Italian Coffee

The cycling route to Muggia is one of the most popular coastal bike rides in this part of the coast. The most scenic and safest option is riding along the Parenzana cycling route (D-8) and the coastal bike paths, which take you right along the sea almost the entire way.

Cycling Route Description: Ankaran – Muggia

  • Starting point: Resort Adria Ankaran.
  • Difficulty: easy, flat route, suitable for all types of bikes (trekking, road, electric).
  • Distance: approx. 15 km one way (approx. 30 km round trip).
  • Riding time: 45–60 minutes one way, at a relaxed pace.

Route Step by Step:

  1. Past Ankaran toward the border: the route follows the main road straight toward the former Lazaret border crossing.
  2. Entering Italy (Lazzaretto): right after crossing the border, you’ll join the Italian coastal bike path. The route runs right along the sea, past local beaches, offering wonderful views over the Gulf of Trieste.
  3. Arrival in Muggia: the route brings you straight to Porto San Rocco marina and then on into the old town of Muggia — time for that well-earned coffee. We recommend coffee at Pasticceria Gangemi by the small harbour, or at Bar Tenda Rossa on the main square.
